My favourite character in the book is the main character in the book whose name is Lakshmi. She is a girl from Nepal and is 13 years old. Before she was sold into sexual slavery in India, she was in her homeland where she lived with her family. Although her family was poor, she was still grateful of the many little things in life that she did in the village. For example, before her best friend left to go work for a rich family in the city as a maid, they used to play together, brushed each other’s hair and many more. Lakshmi also had a little goat who always showed her affection towards her. Therefore, despite being desperately poor, Lakshmi had the little things in life that she would do in her village that would make her happy. This shows that she knows how to appreciate every little things in life despite the circumstances. This is why she is my favourite character as she has a very pleasant and polite attitude. When she has arrived at Happiness House after being sold to slavery by her stepfather, she thinks that she will have to work as a maid just like her best friend. Her mother taught her everything she needed to know like what to do and what not to do and how to respect the family she will be serving. She listens to her mother’s advice and will do what is told to be done. This shows that she will willing to help her family earn money as she cares for them dearly. This is also another reason why she is my favourite character as she is caring and helpful towards her loved ones. When she found out that she was sold to sexual slavery, she stayed strong through it all. This is why she is my favourite character and she always shows courage, bravery and strength despite the many circumstances.
